In the 1840s, Baptiste Paul Grimaud, a young courier with an acute curiosity and ambitious mind, set up his own printing business at just 23, developing the features that define the modern deck: full opacity, rounded corners, double-headed faces, and four corner indices. One year after his death in 1899, the house was awarded the Grand Prix at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.
