Scattered Leaves Ceramic Plate
Handcrafted in the village of Tunis — a picturesque settlement nestled between Lake Qaroun and the desert dunes of the Fayoum Oasis — the Scattered Leaves Ceramic Plate takes its motif from the wild vegetation that grows along Egypt's ancient waterways.
In the 1980s, Swiss ceramic artist Evelyn Porret founded a pottery school in Tunis, introducing the village children to the craft of clay. Her graduates became the village's master potters, shaping a distinctly Tunisian aesthetic: hand-formed pieces adorned with primitive motifs drawn from the local flora and fauna. Each piece is shaped from clay sourced along the Nile banks of Aswan, then hand-glazed and painted by hand — no two are identical.
The Scattered Leaves Ceramic Plate features a delicate hand-painted leaf motif in soft green and blue tones, arranged loosely across the surface as though caught mid-fall. Its organic rhythm and subtle palette make it a natural fit for everyday dining or as a decorative layer in a shelf or table arrangement. Slight variations in colour and form are not imperfections — they are evidence of the hands that made it.
