Pomegranate Ceramic Sculpture
Handcrafted in the village of Tunis — a picturesque settlement nestled between Lake Qaroun and the desert dunes of the Fayoum Oasis — the Pomegranate Ceramic Sculpture is a rare object: genuinely functional, genuinely beautiful.
In the 1980s, Swiss ceramic artist Evelyn Porret founded a pottery school in Tunis, introducing the village children to the craft of clay. Her graduates became the village's master potters, shaping a distinctly Tunisian aesthetic: hand-formed pieces with an organic originality that cannot be replicated by machine. Each piece is shaped from clay sourced along the Nile banks of Aswan, then hand-glazed — no two are identical.
The Pomegranate Ceramic Sculpture captures the ancient fruit's iconic form in off-white glazed clay — rounded, tactile, quietly commanding. Style it as a standalone sculpture on a shelf or console, place a flower stem or reed diffuser inside its hollow neck, or group it with other KILIIM ceramics for a curated tabletop. In the traditions of Tunis, the pomegranate is a symbol of abundance and renewal. Slight variations in glaze and form are not imperfections — they are what make each one singular.
Lead-free. A sculptural accent that carries centuries of meaning.
