The maker

Parisian style, made by hand in India.

Maison Poire is the work of Molly Garat, who has called Paris home for more than a decade. On a business trip to New Delhi in 2014 she fell for the city's markets, its people and its bold, colorful prints, and began imagining a line that paired European design with India's traditional handcrafted textiles. Ten years later Maison Poire was born, named for a still life of a basket of pears.

Each collection draws on the art and design of Paris and is made with artisan partners in India, including the Jaipur workshops behind its hand-painted ornaments and fabric trays. The approach is slow and considered: eco-friendly cottons, leftover bedding fabric given a second life, and quality chosen over quantity.

Yes. The ornaments are hand painted on papier-mache by an artisan in Jaipur, and the trays and toiletry bags are handcrafted from repurposed fabric, so small variations in color and pattern are part of each piece's charm.

Machine wash the napkins cold on a gentle cycle and line dry or tumble dry low; a warm iron restores the crisp finish. The quilted toiletry bags are fully washable too.
