Foliage Ceramic Tray
Handcrafted in the village of Tunis — a picturesque settlement nestled between Lake Qaroun and the desert dunes of the Fayoum Oasis — the Foliage Ceramic Tray brings the lush vegetation of Egypt's oases into rectangular form.
In the 1980s, Swiss ceramic artist Evelyn Porret founded a pottery school in Tunis, introducing the village children to the craft of clay. Her graduates became the village's master potters, shaping a distinctly Tunisian aesthetic: hand-formed pieces adorned with primitive motifs drawn from the local flora and fauna. Each piece is shaped from clay sourced along the Nile banks of Aswan, then hand-glazed and painted by hand — no two are identical.
The Foliage Ceramic Tray features a rich hand-painted leaf pattern in deep green and blue tones across a rectangular form. Generous enough to serve appetisers or cheeses, considered enough to organise a desk, a bedside table, or a bathroom surface. Its organic motif and matte-to-gloss glaze give it a sculptural presence that goes beyond function. Slight variations in colour and form are not imperfections — they are evidence of the hands that made it.
Lead-free and food-safe. A piece for the table or anywhere it finds a home.
