The maker

Turned by hand in English oak.

Alfred Newall set up his English workshop in 2010, after training at the Building Crafts College, with a simple belief: good furniture, made to last a lifetime, only gets better with age. His signature is bobbin, a contemporary take on 17th-century spool furniture.

Each bobbin begins as a square block of sustainably sourced English oak, then is spun on a traditional lathe and shaped by chisel into its rounded forms. Every piece is made to order by hand, celebrating the natural grain of the timber, so no two are exactly alike.

Questions, answered before you order.

Each piece is hand-turned from solid English oak on a traditional lathe, beginning as a square block that is spun and shaped by chisel into its bobbin forms. Because it is made by hand, the grain and finish vary slightly from piece to piece.

Wipe with a damp cloth, using warm soapy water for deeper cleaning. Avoid abrasive cloths and harsh cleaning agents to protect the finish.

Each piece is made to order. Larger pieces such as the mirrors and console take roughly 10 to 12 weeks; smaller pieces ship sooner.

Because each piece is made to order, please reach out with any questions before you order.
