The maker

The Art of the Game.

Founded in Paris in 1848, Grimaud unites artistic tradition and creative craft to conjure refined playing cards and sophisticated accessories for the most elevated experiences.

In the 1840s, Baptiste Paul Grimaud, a young courier with an acute curiosity and ambitious mind, set up his own printing business at just 23, developing the features that define the modern deck: full opacity, rounded corners, double-headed faces, and four corner indices. One year after his death in 1899, the house was awarded the Grand Prix at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.

Good to know
Questions, answered before you order.

There's no single right way. Most people shuffle, draw one card or a few, and use the imagery as a prompt for reflection, journaling, or conversation. The cards aren't about predicting the future so much as giving you a starting point to think something through.

The Marseille is the older European tradition that most modern decks descend from, including the widely sold Rider-Waite-Smith style. Its Minor Arcana use patterned 'pip' cards, arrangements of suit symbols rather than fully illustrated scenes, so readings lean more on color, number, and symbol.

The traditional 78-card structure: 22 Major Arcana (named cards like The Star and The Sun) and 56 Minor Arcana across four suits.

Made in France by Grimaud, a Paris cardmaker established in 1848. This deck revives Grimaud's archival N°400 model from the 1930s, illustrated by Margot Reverdy.

Printed on varnished cardstock with gilded edges, about 4.75 by 2.75 inches. The finish is smooth enough to shuffle and built to hold up to regular use.

Returns are accepted for store credit within 14 days on unused items in their original packaging. If anything arrives damaged, contact our team and we'll make it right.
